The Grand Canyon is one of the seven wonders of the world and lies close to the borders of the states of Utah and Nevada. It is approximately a four to five hour drive from Phoenix to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon . The South Rim is the most popular Grand Canyon destination. From Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon is approximately a two hour drive. The Grand Canyon covers an area of 1,904 square miles (4937 sq. km) and at the deepest point is 6000 vertical feet (1829m) from rim to river. In terms of width, the canyon varies from 10 miles (16 km.) at the narrowest point to 18 miles (29 km.) at the widest.
The Grand Canyon National Park experiences over 5 million visitors annually. With such a significant volume of visitors booking many months in advance for lodging and tours is essential. Other lodging is available in the surrounding neighbouring towns of Tusayan, Williams, and Flagstaff.
