Grand Canyon at a Glance
Listed as one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon covers
an area of 1,904 sq mi (4937 sq km) and is 6000 ft (1829 m) deep from rim to river
at its deepest point. The South Rim of the Canyon, where Grand
Canyon Village is located, is the most popular tourist destination in the
area. Drawing more than 5 million people a year, visitors are encouraged to book
lodging and tours in advance. Some of the favored activities while visiting this
natural area include mule rides to the canyon bottom and larger-than-life movies
at the Grand
Canyon IMAX. Accommodation is also available in the nearby towns of Tusayan,
Williams and Flagstaff,
the largest city in the Grand Canyon area. Local adventure awaits at the nearby
